Your photos stay yours

Almost every image site works by uploading your picture to their computers, processing it there, and giving you a link. That means your photo has been on someone else's machine — and with photos, that matters more than with most files. People compress scans of passports and contracts. They resize family pictures. They convert photos that have not been published anywhere.

Eliroo's image tools work entirely on your device. The picture is read locally, processed locally, and saved locally. Nothing is transmitted — which is also why the tools are so fast, and why they keep working with no connection at all.

Which tool do you need?

Too many bytes? The compressor. It re-encodes the picture at a quality you choose, with a live before-and-after size, and tells you honestly when a file is already as small as it usefully gets. Wrong format? The converter turns anything your browser can read into JPG, PNG or WebP. Wrong dimensions? The resizer scales to exact pixels or a percentage, keeping proportions unless you deliberately break them.

The jobs stack: a 12-megapixel phone photo destined for a web page usually wants resizing to about 1600 pixels wide and then compressing — which turns 4 MB into under 200 KB with no visible change at screen size.

The three formats in one minute

JPG is the photograph format: small, universal, no transparency, and it trades a little edge sharpness for a lot of size. PNG is the graphics format: pixel-perfect edges and transparency, but photographs in PNG are enormous — a common accident worth undoing. WebP is the modern all-rounder: photographs smaller than JPG, graphics with transparency like PNG, understood by every current browser. When in doubt, photos go JPG for compatibility or WebP for size; graphics go PNG.

Built for phone photos

Most pictures that need fixing were taken on a phone, and these tools assume that. Photos load the right way up regardless of how the camera was held, because orientation data is respected rather than ignored. The drop zone is a full-width tap target, sliders are sized for thumbs, and results appear without scrolling. A 12-megapixel photo processes in about a second on a mid-range phone.

Cropping to preset ratios, a favicon generator, EXIF viewing and stripping, and image-to-PDF. Each ships once the awkward cases behave — orientation, transparency, colour profiles — because a photo tool that mangles one picture in fifty is worse than none.

Questions people ask

Are my pictures uploaded anywhere?

No. The picture is read and processed by your own device, and it never leaves it. That is why there is no progress bar and no waiting — there is no upload happening. It also means these tools are safe for photos you would never put on a random website: ID documents, family pictures, unreleased work.

Is there a file size or usage limit?

None from us. Very large images — beyond about 50 megapixels — can exceed what a phone browser is willing to hold in memory, and processing simply fails rather than degrading. Desktop browsers go much higher.

Do these tools work with HEIC photos from iPhones?

Only in Safari, because only Apple's browser can decode HEIC. On other browsers the tool will tell you the file could not be read. The fix on an iPhone: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, or share the photo via a route that converts it to JPEG automatically.

Will compressing a photo make it look worse?

At sensible settings, not noticeably. JPEG at 75–85% quality is very hard to distinguish from the original at normal viewing sizes, while being a fraction of the file. The slider updates the result live, so you can find the point where you personally stop seeing a difference.

JPG, PNG or WebP — which should I use?

Photographs: JPG, or WebP where it is accepted, which is smaller at the same quality. Screenshots, logos and anything with text or sharp edges: PNG, which keeps edges crisp and supports transparency. WebP does everything well and is supported by every modern browser — its only weakness is older software that does not recognise it.

Does resizing reduce the file size too?

Dramatically — file size scales with pixel count, so halving both dimensions roughly quarters the file. If a picture is both too big in pixels and too big in bytes, resize first, then compress.
